“The Breakthrough” by Jerry B. Jenkins continues to the story of Chicago Police Chief Boone Drake. In the first book Boone lost his wife and young son in a tragic accident. Boone engrossed himself in work to try to forget about the pain. Boone gave up on God after his loss. But slowly he learned to trust God again. And he was able to open up his heart again. In the second book Boone meets two new loves of his life; his future wife Haeley and her son Max. In this book life is great for Boone and his family. He is chief of the Major Case Squad, he has the love of a woman and child and his relationship with God is better than it ever was. But Boone feels like he is waiting for the other shoe to drop. And then it does. Boone is now faced with another tragic accident and wonders if he will lose another woman he loves. Boone is soon faced with the decision of staying with Haeley in her time of need or travelling to China to follow a human trafficking case. The case is very personal to Boone and he knows his wife would want him to go. Will Boone be able to keep his family together?
This is the third book in the Precinct 11 series and it is just as wonderful as the first two. Even though we know what is going on during the whole book it is still very suspenseful. You will not want to put it down. I recommend reading “The Brotherhood” and “The Betrayal” first. You will appreciate Boone more if you start at the beginning. I received a complimentary copy of this book to review from Tyndale House Publishers.
