In “Take a Chance on Me” by Susan May Warren, we are once again transported to the small town of Deep Haven. Ivy Madison has just arrived to Deep Haven where she will be starting a new job as assistant county attorney. Her first day there she is talked into attending a bachelor auction. She feels sorry when nobody bids on Darek Christiansen so she does. She did not bargain for the cold, dark man that he is. Darek grew up on Evergreen Lake outside of Deep Haven and his family roots run deep there. Darek seemed to have it all until three years ago when his wife was killed in a tragic vehicle accident leaving him a widower with a young son. The man that was driving the car that night was Darek’s former best friend, Jensen. Since the accident Darek has harbored ill feelings towards Jenson. Darek does the best he can to raise his son but there is something missing from their lives. After spending time with Ivy, Darek realizes that she has filled a void in his life and his heart, but Ivy is keeping something from him. She is the reason Jensen is a free man and still in Deep Haven. Will Darek be able to forgive Jensen? Will he and Ivy’s relationship survive?
“Take a Chance on Me” is another great Deep Haven novel. This book brings back familiar faces from Ms. Warren’s previous books and introduces new ones. This is a great story of how hatred can break a person and make them into something they do not want to be. This is also a wonderful story of finding God and how He heals people and allows them to forgive. I received a complimentary copy of this book to review from Tyndale House Publishers.
