In “Prairie Song” by Mona Hodgson we meet Anna Goben. Anna lives in St. Charles, Missouri with her mother and grandfather. After her brother was killed in the Civil War, Anna’s mother started drinking to numb the pain. Anna has had to bear the responsibility of her family and she has decided that they need a fresh start in California. Just days before they are set to leave on the wagon train she meets trail hand Caleb Reger. Caleb has many secrets that he is keeping from everyone. One of which is that his former fiancé broke his heart and now he does not believe he can trust another woman. Caleb and Anna have several run-ins before and during the journey but they are both intrigued by each other. As the weeks go by they develop a friendship and it soon turns to something more. When tragedy strikes, it threatens their new relationship. Will Anna and Caleb be able to make a new start?
This is the first book in the Hearts Seeking Home series and it will pull you right into the untamed land with Anna and Caleb. There are also several minor characters and story lines that will keep you turning the pages. This is a story of how love and forgiveness are important in order for us to survive the hardships of life and that we must trust God to see us through. I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review. Click here to visit the author's website.
