Critical Reaction

In “Critical Reaction” by Todd M. Johnson, we meet father and daughter Ryan and Emily Hart. Both Ryan and Emily are attorneys and they have been estranged for several years following the death of Emily’s mother. When Emily gets a phone call from an old friend, Kieran, to take over his case against a powerful company Emily knows she can’t do it alone so she calls her father. Kieran was working at the Hanford Nuclear Facility when an explosion happened one night. That explosion set off a chain of events no one expected. Hanford produced plutonium during the Cold War and with the explosion that happened Kieran is worried that he has been exposed to radiation. Hanford has covered up what really happened that night and all Kieran wants is the truth. As Emily and Ryan dig into the case they learn that there is more going on at the facility. They learn that Covington Nuclear, the private company working at Hanford, is developing a chemical trigger for a nuclear weapon without the government’s approval and they will do anything to keep from being found out. Will Emily and Ryan uncover the truth before it’s too late?

“Critical Reaction” is another fast paced, page turning novel. The story is very well written and will make you wonder if something like that could really happen. I really enjoyed the father/daughter relationship between Ryan and Emily. They have to learn to trust and lean on one another and to put the past behind them. I highly recommend this book if you like mysteries or legal stories. I received a complimentary copy of this book to review from Bethany House Publishers.
