“Love Comes Calling” by Siri Mitchell takes us to 1924 Boston. Ellis Eton is from a very wealthy and influential family on Beacon Hill. She attends Radcliffe College but she dreams of Hollywood. She always seems to be getting into trouble and sometimes bringing others with her. When a friend asks Ellis a favor she finds herself once again promising not to let someone down. Everyone knows Ellis is not the most reliable and steady person. Ellis pretends to be someone else and goes to work as a telephone operator. She must abide by the rules for two weeks and not get her friend fired. On the first day she overhears a plot to cause harm to her childhood friend turned love interest, Griffin. She sets out to uncover the bad guys but the problem is that the bad guys know who she is and that she knows. Another problem she faces is that she knows Griffin wants a serious relationship with her but she does not think she would be good enough for him. Will Ellis figure out what her heart really desires before it’s too late?
This is another wonderful book by Siri Mitchell. It will pull you into the roaring twenties and paint a picture of what life was like during prohibition. She gives very detailed descriptions of the speakeasies that popped up during that time along with corruption going on in Boston. This book will make you chuckle at some of the situations Ellis finds herself in and you will feel for her as she always feels like a letdown to her family. I received a complimentary copy of this book to review from Bethany House Publishers.
