Redeeming Grace

"Redeeming Grace" by Jill Eileen Smith tells us the story of Naomi and Ruth. Naomi and her family leave Bethlehem and travel to Moab in order to escape the drought and famine in Bethlehem. She did not expect to be gone for long but years of drought force them to stay. She soon loses her husband then her two sons marry Moabite women one of which was Ruth. Throughout the years Ruth becomes to think of Naomi as her mother and when tragedy strikes and Naomi's sons die unexpectedly Ruth remains by her side. The two travel back to Bethlehem and find themselves destitute and at the mercy of others. Ruth goes to the fields every morning to glean the barley in hopes of keeping the two women from starving. She quickly catches the attention of Boaz who offers his protection to her. With the help of Naomi, Ruth goes to Boaz to ask him to be her kinsman redeemer in hopes of securing marriage and a better future. What she and Boaz did not count on was each finding love again.

Jill Eileen Smith does an amazing job of bring the Book of Ruth to life and retelling one of the greatest love stories of all time. She paints a vivid picture of the characters and the setting and makes the reader feel like they are there with Naomi and Ruth. The story of Ruth shows us that even though bad things happen in our lives God is always there with us and loving us. Even when we may drift from Him, His love never wavers. We only need to turn to Him and put our trust in Him and He will see us through our dark times and bring us to a brighter future. I highly recommed this book and all of this author's books as she does a wonderful job of bringing the Bible to life. I received a complimentary copy of this book to review from Revell.
